Spanish Civil War 1936 - 1939

Belchite Village

From 24th August - 7th Sept 1937 Republican Forces & Volunteers of XV International Brigade shelled Belchite Village from nearby Lobo Hill, eventually forcing Franco's troops out.

Corbera Village

2500 villagers once lived here but the houses were totally destroyed from artillery and aerial attacks and they were unable to return to their homes. The site has recently been declared 'A Site of Historical Interest' to serve as a reminder of the horrors of war.

Life on the Front

Life in the trenches was harsh. With constant airial and atillery attacks soldiers had to dig shelters close to the trenches.

The trenches

Trenches offered no protection and soldiers were left exposed to the elements. With limited supplies and only basic facilities, under the constant threat of attack, life really was almost unbearable.
